Rangpur – In Rangpur Municipal Corporation (RPCC) elections-2022, for the post of mayor to be held on December 27, 10 candidates filed nomination papers today in an atmosphere of celebration.
RPCC Election Returning Officer Abdul Baatein said in a press conference here, “A total of 277 candidates have submitted nomination papers for 10 posts of mayor, 198 for general councilor posts in 33 wards and 69 reserved women councilor posts in 11 reserved wards.” did.” afternoon.
He thanked all the candidates aspiring for the post of mayor and general and reserved councilor for submitting nomination papers peacefully following the election rules.
The 10 RpCC mayoral post candidates are: Awami League nominated Hosne Ara Lutfa Dalia, Jatiya Party nominated Md. Mostafizur Rahman, Md Amiruzzaman (Islami Andolan Bangladesh), Md Abu Raihan (Bangladesh Congress), Md Latifur Rahman (Independent), Md Tauhidur Rahman Mondal (Khelafat Majlish), Md Shafiar Rahman (Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal- JASOD), Md Ataur Zaman Babu (Independent), Md Mehedi Hasan (Bony) (Independent) and Md Khorshed Alam (Zaker Party).
Today was the last day for submission of nomination papers.
“Scrutiny of nomination papers submitted will be done on December 1 and the last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is December 8,” he said.
Election symbols will be allotted on December 9 and RPCC elections will be held on December 27 next from 8:40 am to 8:40 pm.
The Returning Officer said that in the third Rangpur Municipal Corporation election, Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be used at all polling stations.
“Each polling station will be covered with CCTV cameras,” he added. He sought cooperation from all political parties, contesting candidates and journalists to conduct the Rangpur Municipal Corporation elections in a peaceful manner.
Meanwhile, Awami League’s nominated mayoral candidate Hosne Ara Lutfa Dalia along with senior Awami League leaders submitted his nomination papers to Returning Officer Abdul Baatein this afternoon.
The meeting was attended by District Awami League General Secretary Advocate Rezaul Karim Raju, City Awami League President Shafiur Rahman Safi and its General Secretary Tushar Kanti Mondal.
Former Awami League legislator and lawyer by profession Hosne Ara Lutfa Dalia told reporters after submitting her nomination papers that the people of Rangpur are eagerly waiting to vote for the ‘boat’ symbol on December 27 next.
“The local leaders and workers of the Awami League and its sister bodies are united. With their cooperation and the support of the common people, the symbol ‘boat’ will win this time, inshallah,” he said.
The mayoral candidate nominated by the Jatiya Party and the immediate former mayor of Rangpur, Mohd. Mustafizur Rahman along with his senior party leaders submitted his nomination to Returning Officer Abdul Baatein at his office this afternoon.
After submitting his nomination papers, Mustafizur Rahman expressed hope that the people of Rangpur would elect him as the Mayor of Rangpur once again to serve them through continuous development.
