Eleven Bangladeshi garment workers were killed and four injured in a road accident in Mauritius yesterday (Wednesday.)
The accident took place in the morning when a lorry collided with the van carrying them on their way to their workplace.
The ill-fated Bangladeshis went to Mauritius on December 30 last year with valid work permits to work as sewing machine operators for Pandemonio Co Ltd.
All the deceased and injured Bangladeshis hailed from Comilla and Brahmanbaria districts.
A Mauritius national was also killed in the accident.
Their bodies were kept in a local hospital while the injured were undergoing treatment.
According to the consul general all the workers had insurance coverage and they will get compensation. Pandemonio Ltd. will provide costs for repatriation of the dead bodies.
