Two female students allegedly committed suicide in Gazipur and city’s Banasree yesterday.
The deceased are Razia Sultana, 14, a class seven student of National Republic School and College at Kashimpur of Gazipur, and Shaila Sharmin Jemy, 27, student of Sigma Polytechnic in city’s Malibagh area.
Razia Sultana’s brother Siddiqul Islam said his sister poured kerosene on her body and set her on fire at about 1:00pm when he and his mother were out of their residence near Kashimpur Rawshan Market.
Being informed by the neighbours, they rushed to the house, found Razia seriously injured and rushed her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared her dead.
Earlier, Khilgaon police recovered the body of Jemy from her residence at south Banasree around 10:00am.
The police said Jemy lived with her elder brother Golam Morsalin, and her sister-in-law.
They said she committed suicide by hanging from the window grill using a scarf.
Jemy took dinner and went her room at 12 midnight.
In the morning her brother and sister-in-law found her hanging.
