Due to protests by RMG workers, the owners decided to increase their proposed monthly wages by 10,400 taka. However, the owners did not reveal what their revised amount would be.

Prothom Alo’s Ghazipur correspondent said Ghazipur’s industrial area was relatively quiet yesterday as factories were closed. But workers from several factories gathered at Vogra bypass area of Ghazipur city on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway on Thursday morning. As the protesters tried to block the highway, police dispersed them using sound grenades and tear shells.

Meanwhile, RMG owners held a meeting with Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan last evening and demanded additional security for the factories. Prime Minister’s Private Advisor on Industry and Investment Salman F Rehman was also present during the meeting.

BGMEA President Farooq Hasan told Prothom Alo last night that the Home Minister has assured to provide security to the factories. The closed factories have been asked to remain closed till Friday. Factories will open from Saturday.

The BGMEA president said, if any worker does not come to work after the factory reopens, their actions will be considered illegal.
