77 BNP members sentenced ahead of national elections: latest cases and verdicts

The charges in these separate cases included unlawful assembly, obstructing police work, assault, vandalism of vehicles, arson and cocktail explosion. The plaintiff in four of these cases is the police, while one involves the driver.

The case registered at Shahjahanpur police station in September 2018 involved 80 to 85 BNP leaders and workers who, according to the statement of the case, had taken out a march against the government from the Railgate area of ​​Malibagh on September 7, 2018.

During the protests, they vandalized cars on the street and detonated crude bombs (‘cocktails’). 13 accused were included in the charge sheet of this case. The trial began on 24 September and ended on 29 November, with five police witnesses presented in court on behalf of the state.

In the judgment issued by Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court Magistrate Mosharraf Hossain, 12 persons were sentenced to two years in jail, while one person was acquitted.
