Before raping the young woman in Mohammadpur, Nazmul had picked up a woman (25) in March and molested her in the car. A case was registered in this regard at Mohammadpur police station on March 19. According to the police report, the woman lives with her family in Kalyanpur in the capital. On March 1, when the woman was walking on the road in front of Kalyanpur Model Government Primary School, a car came and blocked her way. Two men got out of the car and introduced themselves as members of the police's detective branch (DB) and forcibly made her sit in the car. They threatened that they would take off her clothes and make a video of her. Later, they robbed her of 140,000 taka and left her in Adabor.
Mirpur Model Police Station SI Baiyezed Mollah, the investigating officer in the case, told Prothom Alo that with the court's permission, they took Nazmul on two-day remand and questioned him. He admitted to using fake DB identities to pick up and harass women.
Police have found evidence that Nazmul was also involved in the gangrape of a woman who was picked up in a car from Bhashantek in 2022. According to the chargesheet presented in the court, on July 11, a young woman (22) was walking in front of the Navy Market in Bhashantek when Nazmul and his two companions picked her up and raped her in the car. Later, they extorted 20,000 taka from her father over mobile phone and left her in Rampura.
Bhashantek Police Station Inspector Abul Hasnat Khandaker, the investigating officer in the case, told Prothom Alo that Nazmul, who grew up in Dhaka, was a serial rapist. He would roam around the city in a car and when he got the chance, he would pick up women and rape them in the car. Some young women had filed cases against him, while many refrained from doing so.
