Alarming increase of road accidents in Bangladesh

At least 33 people were killed and more than 100 injured in road accidents in 10 districts in three days during Eid. The accidents took place in Bogra, Magura, Narsingdi, Sherpur, Comilla, Pabna, Munshiganj, Dinajpur, Narail and Kishoreganj.

Speeding, faulty design and lack of road maintenance and weak enforcement of traffic rules are the major causes of the increased number of fatal accidents on highways that claim scores of lives every month. At some points it is difficult to control due to faulty design as have been identified by experts.

At least 15 people were killed and 15 injured in road accidents in eight districts on Sunday and Saturday night.
The accidents took place in Dhaka Gazipur, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Munshiganj, Rajbari, Brammanbaria and Bogra.

Several others were also injured. The number of casualties would be more as many accidents do not have police record.
