The Amar Ekushey (immortal 21st) and the International Mother Language Day was observed at Bangladesh missions abroad in a befitting manner, according to messages received here.
In New Delhi, the day’s programme at Bangladesh High Commission in the Indian capital began in the morning with High Commissioner Tariq A Karim hoisting the national flag at half-mast on the chancery premises.
The messages of President M Zillur Rahman, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Foreign Minister Dipu Moni were read out on the occasion.
Special prayers were offered seeking divine blessings for the eternal peace of language martyrs of 1952 and the martyrs of the War of Liberation in 1971.
Prayers were also offered for the departed soul of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who was assassinated on the fateful night of August 15 along with most of his family members as well as peace, progress.
