India’s senior diplomat, Ambassador Indra Mani Pandey on Thursday assumed the position of Secretary General (SG) of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC).
He is the fourth SG of BIMSTEC and will remain its SG for a period of three years. A press release from the BIMSTEC Secretariat in Dhaka said he replaced Bhutan’s Tenzin Lekfel.
Upon his arrival in Dhaka on Thursday, SG Ambassador Pandey was warmly welcomed by Abdul Motaleb Sarkar, Director General (SAARC and BIMSTEC) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh and the Directors of the BIMSTEC Secretariat.
Speaking to the Directors and other members of the BIMSTEC Secretariat, the new SG reiterated the commitment of the Secretariat under his leadership to translate into reality the grand vision of expansion and deepening of development of BIMSTEC member countries with sincerity and renewed vigor. Work can be done. Cooperation among BIMSTEC member countries, within the framework of the seven pillars of cooperation agreed upon by BIMSTEC leaders.
He thanked the BIMSTEC Member States for delegating the responsibility of the SG and sought their continued support and guidance to enable the Secretariat to meet their expectations. He also thanked his predecessors for their distinguished contributions as SG.
