Although the residence of late BNP leader Tariqul Islam was attacked for the sixth time in the last four years, no case has been registered in connection with the incident and no one has been detained.

After every incident, the police goes to the spot and collects evidence. However, police said they were trying to identify the attackers by examining CCTV footage.

There are also allegations against the police that they were reluctant to register cases in connection with the first phase of attacks.

When it was 10:40 pm, five motorcycles arrived in front of the gate of the residence of former minister Tariqul Islam in Ghop area of Jashore city.

There were two to three riders on each motorcycle. Some of them were wearing face masks and some were wearing helmets. Alighting from the motorcycles, they threw country bombs one after the other, targeting Tariqul’s residence. The explosion shook the house and the entire area was filled with smoke. 25 crude bombs were detonated in 85 seconds. Such a picture has emerged in CCTV footage.

Tariqul’s wife, district BNP convener Professor Nargis Begum, was alone at home when the attack took place on Saturday night.

His son and acting organizing secretary of BNP Khulna division Anindo Islam was not at the residence.

Anindo Islam said, “After every attack, the police collect evidence and say they are investigating the case. But the police have not detained the attackers.”
