Awami League sources said several central leaders and ministers have conveyed their concerns over independent candidates to party president Sheikh Hasina.
Several leaders of the 14-party coalition partners expressed disagreement over the Awami League’s stance on independent candidates during a meeting at Gana Bhawan in Dhaka on Monday, but Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina made it clear that she would not personally request anyone to step down. Will not do.
For this reason, no independent candidate has yet faced organizational action, and the Awami League is not currently considering such measures.
Although four Awami League candidates have dropped out of the contest, party policymakers are less worried about these seats as there are independent candidates.
