The Awami League says that the credit for repeatedly making Anwarul Azim, the MP killed in Kolkata, a candidate in the Jatiya Sangsad elections goes to his popularity. Talking to reporters on Thursday, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader revealed this. But some Awami League leaders believe that no matter what arguments are given, the truth is that no action has been taken against Anwarul Azim despite the allegations of criminal cases against him. Popularity cannot be used as an excuse to avoid the situation. This is being discussed informally among many party leaders.
Two middle-level leaders of the Awami League said that wherever they go, they have to face questions about these incidents. They have no proper answers. They themselves are not satisfied with the explanations given by the concerned ministers. But no one dares to speak up and raise these issues on any platform.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina held a meeting with the top leaders of the 14-party alliance on Thursday. Some of the allies had demanded strict action against corruption. But the issue of the killing of two former chiefs of the two armies and the MP was not raised. Hasanul Haque Inu, leader of alliance party Jashod, while talking to Prothom Alo, said that some people are involved in this case. He does not see any political involvement in it and that is why he did not raise the issue in the meeting of the 14-party alliance. However, the leader of another alliance party said that the main leader of the alliance had called the meeting and he did not raise the issue. So they also did not raise the issue.
