Bangladesh face Lankans in Women’s World Cup qualifier tomorrow

Hosts Bangladesh will face favourites Sri Lanka in an important play-off match of the ICC Women’s World Cup qualifier at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Tuesday at 9 am.

It is a very important tie for Bangladesh; if they can beat the fancied Sri Lanka they will qualify for the World Cup and also would get the ODI status.

It is no doubt a difficult task to beat Lankans who boast of having won all the nine previous encounters.

Bangladesh road to super-six berth was not a very cosy one as they lost to Pakistan by 73 runs, thrashed Japan by 10 wickets in the very next matches. In their third outing Bangladesh drubbed Irelands by 85 runs.

In the final group match Bangladesh lost to West Indies by 80 runs. Sri Lanka, which finished group A runners-up, lost their opening match against strong South Africa by six runs and recorded a seven-wicket victory over Netherlands and Zimbabwe in the second and third matches.

Sri Lanka finished their group A match with an emphatic eight-wicket victory over the United State of America.
