It was a much-improved performance as Bangladesh lost 2-0 goals to mighty Australia in the second round of the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers 2026 held at the Bashundhara Kings Arena in the city on Thursday.
Australia recorded their fifth consecutive win thanks to an own goal by defender Mehedi Hasan in the first half and a header by forward Kusini Yengi in the second half.
Australia have already advanced to the next round of qualifying, while they topped Group I with Thursday's win.
Bangladesh finished bottom of the group, losing four of their five matches.
