Bangladeshi flag in philadelphia

Bangladesh flag has been hoisted permanently at the historic Benjamin Parkway in the Philadelphia, USA.

City Mayor of Philadelphia Michael Nater formally hoisted the flag on November 19 in presence of expatriate Bangladeshis, Press Minister at the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington Swapan Kumar Saha told BSS today.

National anthem was playing while the city mayor hoisting the flag. With hoisting of Bangladesh flag permanently in Philadelphia, he said, the long cherished demand of expatriate Bangladeshis living here was fulfilled.

The historic parkway was named after Benjamin Franklin for his contribution to the Independence movement, who was one of the declarers of the Independence of USA on July 4, 1776 from this park located in front of the Philadelphia city hall.

Bangladesh’s name was written on the flag stand beside the 18 other countries– Angola, Belarus, Botswana, Bulgaria, El- Salvador, Fiji, Georgia, Indonesia, Kuwait, Nepal, Oman, Qatar, Saint Vincent Nevis, Senegal, Tanzania, Trinidad, Tobago and Turkey, the Press Minister said.

Leaders of Bangladesh association of greater Philadelphia have been demanding to the city authority for the last four years for hoisting Bangladesh flag along with national flags of 18 other countries.

President and general secretary of Bangladesh association of greater Philadelphia Haji Mohammed Khorshan and Alauddin Liton and its advisors freedom fighter Abu Taher, Bir Pratik, among other, were present.

It is noteworthy that hoisting of national flags of those countries are approved by the city authority in recognition of sincere efforts of the people of different countries who are striving to make the city beautiful.
