17 people died in the Batali hill incident. A large chunk of earth of the Batali hill fell on the houses at the foot of the hill. At least 20 houses were destroyed in the incident. The incident took place at around 6 am on Friday.
The incident occurred due to the breakage of the protection wall.
The protection wall is of 360 ft; around 300 ft of the wall was constructed in the year 2008 by the city corporation. A portion of around 60 ft collapsed on Friday.
Faulty construction and lack of maintenance of the wall may be the cause of the incident.
A Five member probe committee has been formed in this regard.
Five engineers of CCC were suspended in this connection.
