BJP leading with 39.3% as votes are counted in India's general election

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leads India's election with 39.3 percent with a quarter of the votes counted, according to data from the National Election Commission on Tuesday.

According to the commission's data, the BJP and its alliance partners are leading in at least 281 seats, more than the 272 seats needed for a majority in the lower house.
