Mirza Fakhrul said, “I am confident that the professionals will again lead the country out of the crisis, as they have always done.”
The BNP leader said the movement is not aimed only at Khaleda’s unconditional release or the withdrawal of cases against her son Tariq Rahman, who is serving as the party’s acting vice-president from London. It also aims to “protect the country’s freedom and democracy”.
Khaleda is out of jail on a suspended sentence in corruption cases.
‘peaceful’
Comments by some local and central leaders about the planned rally made people worried about possible violence in Dhaka on 10 December, but Mirza Fakhrul said that “there is no alternative to peace”.
He said, ‘If we want democracy to return, we must be successful in taking out a peaceful rally on 10 December.’
