BRICS block expansion: South Africa confirms joining of five new member countries

South African Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor said on Wednesday that Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have confirmed they are joining the BRICS bloc after being invited last year.

The five countries, along with Argentina, were invited to a summit in Johannesburg in August to join the group comprising Brazil, Russia, China, India and South Africa. Members say the move will help shake up a world order they see as outdated.
