China calls for expanding BRICS role amid rising Western sanctions

BRICS, which comprises Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa and aims to counter Western dominance of the world order, has added several more members after Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Iran and Ethiopia joined earlier this year.

Wang said the expanded BRICS should develop into “a new multilateral cooperation mechanism” driven by emerging markets and developing countries.
