Commonwealth Secretary General to attend NAM Summit in Uganda

In a statement ahead of his visit, Secretary-General Scotland thanked Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni for the invitation and praised his leadership as Chair of the Non-Aligned Movement.

Reflecting on the Summit’s theme ‘Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Prosperity’, the Secretary-General said, “Many developing countries have made great progress in improving the well-being of their people. But they are now bearing the brunt of myriad crises, including the lingering effects of COVID-19, rising debt, inflationary pressures and intense climate extremes and disasters.

The lack of adequate international support forces them to use more of their limited resources to protect their people from these crises, which further increases their challenges, eroding hard-earned progress on poverty, inequality and development. Has been, and is pushing many countries to the brink. ,

“To tackle these overlapping challenges, we need collaboration and solidarity more than ever. “The voice of the Non-Aligned Movement is essential and the Commonwealth stands as a trusted partner in achieving our shared vision for a peaceful, just and sustainable future for all,” he said.
