The Uttara to Agargaon section of the Metro Rail was inaugurated on 28 December 2022. The Agargaon to Motijheel section was inaugurated on 4 November. Night services on Motijheel route started from January 20. After this the pressure of passengers skyrocketed.

MD Hadiuzzaman, a transportation expert and professor in the department of civil engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), told Prothom Alo, “Metro rail is considered a ‘high frequency’ public transport around the world. Therefore, it requires a quick, smart and efficient manpower to operate it. Otherwise, it will not be possible to increase metro rail service.”

Dhaka is one of the most densely populated cities in the world. It is natural that there will be a lot of passenger pressure here,” he said.

Professor Hadiuzzaman further said, “People will naturally prefer time-saving and hassle-free services like metro rail. The need now is to increase trains during peak hours to ensure that everyone is served.
