Dengue outbreak in Bangladesh: 16 died in 24 hours, 2608 hospitalized

“During this period, 892 dengue patients were hospitalized in Dhaka city, while 1,716 were admitted to various hospitals outside Dhaka,” the DGHS daily statement said.

“There were 634 deaths due to dengue disease this year, the highest in a year since dengue was detected in 2000, compared to 281 deaths last year,” the DGHS daily statement said.

With the new cases, the total number of patients rose to 130,302, the statement said, adding, “About 120,823 patients were discharged from various hospitals out of the total number of patients this year.”

“A total of 8,845 dengue patients are undergoing treatment in various hospitals. Of them, 3,928 are in Dhaka while 4,917 are outside the capital city,” it said.

According to the DGHS statement, of the total dengue positive cases, 49,495 are females and 80,807 are males. Of the total deaths, 369 are women and 265 are men.
