Eden Girls’ College was established in 1873 and it was the first it was the first college for women in then Bengal Presidency. In 1963 it was moved to its present campus at Azimpur area.
It’s a government run college and the largest college for women in the capital. At present it is offering Honours, Pass and Masters courses on various subjects with the affiliation of National University.
Now the students of the college are demanding for a full autonomous university for women. Yesterday they formed a human chain on the road in front of their campus and arranged a rally demanding this. They say, this college has all the facilities required for a university. It has residential hall for students, adequate classrooms and there should not be any problem in transforming this college into a university. The students say, they will continue their programs demanding a full university for women until it is accepted by the authority.
