EU Parliament members condemned the prison sentences against Customs Secretary Adilur Rahman Khan and its director ASM Naseeruddin Elan.
They urged the Government to immediately and unconditionally revoke the sentences and restore Adhikar’s registration, and to ensure that civil society organizations can access approved foreign funding.
The resolution states that Odhikar, a leading human rights organization, has faced more than a decade of harassment and criminalization, including being deregistered as an NGO.
Its leaders – Adilur Rahman Khan and ASM Naseeruddin Elan – faced false criminal charges, the ruling ruled on Thursday, while the failure to follow due process in the case drew widespread condemnation.
