Banking and financial institution experts have urged for stronger central bank in the country. This opinion came from a roundtable discussion organized by Center for Policy Dialogue.
Saleh Uddin Ahmed a former governor of the central bank said, a division in finance ministry to control the banks and financial institutions should be abolished. Only central bank should play the regulatory role.
He said, central should also monitor the activities of the multilevel companies and co operative societies.
Some speakers said present dual authority of finance ministry and central bank has paved the way for Hallmark scam.
Member of Parliament from ruling and opposition parties, economists, academics, representatives from donor agencies and central bank officials were present at the roundtable discussion.
