The textile industry in Bangladesh is largely dependent on a few sectors, with 80 percent of apparel exports coming from just five specific sectors. The total apparel exports in the financial year 2022-23 were USD 46.99 billion, where the exports of trousers, T-shirts, knitted shirts, sweaters, regular shirts and blouses and underwear accounted for USD 37.75 billion.
However, there are some RMG factories that export high-end products including blazers, jeans pants, jackets and T-shirts. For example, Snowtex Group receives US$10 to 50 for a single jacket.
SM Khalid, Managing Director, Snowtex Group, said, “Our factories are investing in increasing productivity, apart from producing high-value garments. This is expected to be completed in the next 5 to 10 years and then exports of high-end garments will increase.
