Sarniabat Sadiq Abdullah, the outgoing mayor of Barishal Municipal Corporation, failed to retain his candidature as the party named his uncle Abul Khair Abdullah as its candidate for the upcoming elections in the city.
In Sylhet, the Awami League named Anwaruzzaman as its candidate for the city elections after the previous candidate, Badr Uddin Ahmad Kamran, died of coronavirus.
Anwaruzzaman’s nomination came as a surprise as he does not hold any position in the local committees of the ruling party. He is the joint general secretary of the UK unit of the Awami League.
