Awami League general secretary Obaidul Qadir on Wednesday said the ruling party will play the game in October and December and also in the first week of January.
Quader, the Minister of Road Transport and Bridges, made the statement in response to a warning from the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) that they would take to the streets to oust Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government if she did not step down voluntarily.
The BNP is warning that the party and its allies will occupy the streets of Dhaka ahead of the elections as it wants a caretaker government to oversee elections, expected to be held by January next year.
“Time will tell who will capture Dhaka. Fakhrul (BNP general secretary) has been crying recently. You cannot agitate for Khaleda Zia even for 48 minutes,” he said as the chief guest at an Awami League peace rally at Tongi Government College grounds on Wednesday afternoon.
