Abdullah Mohammad Zobair, executive engineer of the Public Works Department, told Prothom Alo, “We have developed a project to build a park on vacant land at a cost of one billion taka. The park will have walkways. There will be sports facilities. No. There will be a reservoir. We will send the project to the Planning Commission for approval.
According to documents from the Ministry of Public Works, the current government, after assuming power in 2009, took the initiative several times to shift the secretariat to Sher-e-Bangla Nagar. A project of 20 billion taka was also taken for this. The original plan of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, including the National Parliament Building, designed by the world-renowned architect Louis I. Kahn, was brought to the country at a cost of US$4 million.
According to the design, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar was to have four main buildings of nine stories each with a 14-story foundation. Apart from this, an auditorium, convention center, mosque, bank, post office, and 1000 car parking facilities were kept in the project area. But the government is withdrawing from these plans.
