On March 9 last year, a High Court division bench of Justice Mohd Moinul Islam Chowdhary and Justice AKM Zaheerul Haque, after hearing a petition filed by the ACC, upheld the trial court’s order sentencing Saleem to 10 years in prison.
On February 10 this year, the HC released the full text of the judgement, asking Salim to surrender to the concerned trial court in 30 days. Salim surrendered before a court in Dhaka on 22 May. Later that day, a Dhaka court sent him to jail, rejecting his bail plea.
With this bail order, there is no bar on Haji Salim’s release from jail, said his lawyer Ahmed Raza.
