Bangladeshi authority has confirmed detection of Indian COVID-19 strain in Bangladesh. Currently, India is facing the worst pandemic situation in the world. Nearly four thousand people are dying every day and around four lac new cases are detected. Double and triple mutation of coronavirus is blamed for the worsened pandemic situation in India. Few days ago Indian health officials have warned its eastern states that the pandemic is moving eastward. Eastern states include West Bengal and Assam. Bangladesh has a long land border with these eastern states and already sealed border with India. But Import and export of goods are being continued. Truck drivers and helpers are crossing border without following any health precautions.

Moreover, many Bangladeshi travelers have returned from India in the last few weeks. Many of them are tested positive, and they didn’t follow quarantine rules properly. This was a big concern. Experts have been pushing for genome sequencing so that we can detect whether Indian variant has reached Bangladesh. Finally, IEDCR (Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research) chief scientific officer ASM Alamgir has confirmed detection of Indian variant to media.

This Indian variant is much more contagious and dangerous. So far two confirmed cases are reported both of them came from Indian through Benapole land port. Experts have urged for more caution.
