A meeting between the heads of governments of two close South Asian neighbors – Bangladesh and India – is scheduled to take place after the elections in both countries. The long disputed Teesta water sharing issue may dominate the meeting.
Diplomatic sources indicated that the issue of a mega plan focusing on the Teesta river may also come up during the meeting as talks are on to launch a project on Teesta funded by China. India is also in an uncomfortable situation due to China's cross-border Teesta River project.
Meanwhile, Chinese President Xi Jinping has invited Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to visit Beijing in July. However, Dhaka sent a message to New Delhi that it would be his first bilateral visit to India after assuming office after the 12th parliamentary elections.
