In an exclusive interview with Whiteboard, the country's first policy magazine, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina explained her priority goals in setting long-term policies that will lead to increased living standards in South Asia's youngest nation.

“The Bangladesh model is based on some indigenous values and policy continuity. Policy-makers need to consider issues such as our strategic location, our topography, the needs of our people, our history, our environment and our resources. No foreign recipe for development ever works,” said Sheikh Hasina, currently the world's longest-serving female head of state.

“The governance of our country will be based only on our priorities. In other words, Bangladesh cannot import another country's development formula,'' the Prime Minister said.

He also focused on the need to keep an open mindset to learn about developments happening around the world.

“This does not mean that we close our eyes to developments around the world. We have to study the good practices of different countries so that they can be reused for our needs,” she said.
