South Africa’s diplomatic support for the Algerian-backed Polisario Front, which seeks to establish an independent state in Western Sahara, a region Morocco claims as its own, has strained relations between the two countries.
Morocco will not attend the BRICS meeting in South Africa, MAP said, adding that “South Africa has indeed always shown primary hostility towards Morocco and has taken a systematically negative and dogmatic stance on the Moroccan Sahara issue.”
It states that Morocco adheres to non-divisive multilateralism and has good relations with the rest of the BRICS member countries.
