Legal notice issued to the government to stop Indian satellite channels in Bangladesh

JalsaA Supreme Court Lawyer Eklas Uddin Bhuiyan has issued a legal notice to the government yesterday demanding a ban on Indian satellite channels within 24 hours. He said the Indian channels are causing negative impact on our society and he will take legal action if the government does not do anything to ban these channels in Bangladesh.

“Bojhena Se Bojhena” is a television serial aired on Indian Bangla channel Star Jalsa and there is a character on the television serial who wears a special dress called Pakhi dress. This dress is an expensive one and imported from India. It enjoyed huge demand during Eid shopping. A school girl of Gaibandha district committed suicide because her parents couldn’t afford that. Another man of Bogra district committed suicide because he could not buy a Pakhi dress for his wife.

Some pro Indian sections in Bangladesh likes silence in this regard but many cultural activists in Bangladesh have been pressing for a ban on those channels because India never allow Bangladeshi satellite channels there. Moreover television serials aired on those channels don’t have any story at all. They concentrate on imaginary and absurd family politics which is causing tension in many families and promoting unethical relationship between men and women.
