Ridwanul Haq, senior law officer at Charles Darwin University in Australia, said police register bogus cases after studying individuals. Those who organize political programs and rallies are being made accused so that they cannot do so in future.
He said that if the situation does not improve, then the next election will not be fair. Such a situation will have far reaching consequences.
Zahid Ur Rahman, a teacher at the Independent University, Bangladesh, said, “The fake cases filed during this government are of a completely different nature. Its aim is to manipulate the election as per its wish.”
Zahid Ur Rehman also said that fake cases are filed to harass and not to bring anyone under the ambit of law.
Golam Murtuza, Senior Correspondent of bdnews24.com, said, “We first saw incidents of large scale cases being registered on the allegation of fictitious incidents during the ‘Safe Road Movement’ of school students in August, 2018. First a case was registered against some students in Sylhet.
Golam Murtuza further said that there was no incident of vandalizing vehicles at that time but many cases were registered against the students. Several arrests were made in Dacca. He said this trend continued till the Parliament elections (in 2018).
