More than 100 BGP members have taken shelter in Naikhongchari

Naikhongchari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Zakaria said he had not heard any firing in areas near the border in the past week. Locals said the 29 BGP members fled to Bangladesh after being chased by the Arakan Army.

Earlier, around 330 Myanmar nationals, including BGP and Myanmar Army members and customs officials, had fled to Bangladesh through the Wykong border in Teknaf and the Ghumdhum border in Naikhongchari upazila. Later the BGB sent them all back to Myanmar on 15 February.

Clashes between Myanmar's BGP and the Arakan Army began on 2 February at the Naikhongchari border. Subsequently, around 330 Myanmar nationals took refuge in Bangladesh, including 302 BGP members, four of their family members, two army personnel, 18 immigration officials and four civilians.
