New chip based driving licences

New driving licence scheme is going to be started soon. Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) is going to produce hi-tech driving licences. They hope that this will prevent fake licences used by drivers.

Within five years the number of licences will be 11.50 lakh at a cost of 37 crore. These licences will have integrated circuits (chips) to preserve security. These chips will have data related to the respective drivers

There will be a new database. Data of 10,000 drivers has been entered in the database. A machine of producing 5,000 licences a day has been set up at Elenbari BBRTA office in this regard.
