He came up with the disclosure while addressing as chief guest a seminar on national curriculum development on the basis of National Education Policy-2010 held at the BIAM auditorium in the city Thursday.

National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) and Secondary Education Sector Development Project (SESDP) organized the seminar.

The new curriculum must be written by March 2012 and the books will be handed on January 1 in 2013, the minister informed the audience.

“There is no alternative to acquiring knowledge on science and technology to build up a modern Bangladesh,” he said, adding, “It will not be possible to change society with the present text curriculum that was introduced in 1996.”

Changes will be brought in 75 books of secondary level and 4 of higher education level, he also informed the meet.

To cope with the fast-changing world, the new curriculum will uphold moral values, integrity, and punctuality of the students alongside acquiring knowledge of modern times.

The minister said the population of the country must be turned into human resources with the help of vocational and technical education.

With Education Secretary Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury in the chair, the meeting was also addressed, among others, by NCTB chairman Professor Md Mostafa Kamal Uddin, SESDP project director Ratan Kumar Roy, adviser for national curriculum Dr Siddiqur Rahman and Secondary and Higher Secondary Directorate DG Professor Noman Ur Rashid.
