The Kiwis performed creditably in that tournament and lost to hosts India in the semi-finals.
Bangladesh, which finished eighth in the World Cup after winning just two matches, has also entered a new phase with the series.
Newly appointed captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto, a batsman, will take the field as his team leader for the first time, with regular skipper Shakib Al Hasan and his deputy Liton Das taking a break.
“I wouldn’t say we’re completely new, but less experienced. It was inevitably going to happen at some level,” Nazmul said.
He said, “I would call it an opportunity for those who are young and new to the team; they should take it as a challenge.”
The second Test of the series will be held in Dhaka from 6-10 December.
