Pakistan faced aggressive Australian bowling on the second day of the opening Test in Perth on Friday and did not suffer any loss till tea while chasing the hosts’ first innings score of 487 runs.
At the break, their score was 43–0, with Abdullah Shafiq unbeaten on 25 and Imam ul-Haq unbeaten on nine.
They persisted for 20 overs on a pitch that still had some bounce, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins and Mitchell Marsh roaring with no joy.
Captain Cummins brought spin king Nathan Lyon into the attack early and he found some dangerous turn in his bid for four more wickets that would take him to 500.
But the batsmen held firm and Shafiq is in good form and has hit four confident boundaries so far.
