Parliamentary Committees: Addressing Conflicts of Interest in Committee Appointments

According to Prothom Alo report, there is a possibility of conflict of interest in at least six committees, including the Commerce Ministry committee. The remaining five include Parliamentary Standing Committees on Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Power, Energy and Minerals, Ministry of Shipping, Ministry of Overseas Welfare and Foreign Employment and Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development.

Of the nine members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Commerce Ministry, six are businessmen. However, National Parliament Chief Whip Noor-e-Alam Chaudhary does not see any problem in this.
