Brazilian football great Pele said on Saturday he was feeling strong and hopeful despite the medical problems that have kept the 82-year-old sports icon hospitalized with a respiratory infection.
Pele, widely regarded as the greatest footballer of all time, was admitted to hospital earlier this week while undergoing treatment for stomach cancer.
“My friends, I want everyone to stay calm and positive,” Pele said in an Instagram post. “I am going strong with great hope and following my treatment as always.”
Doctors treating Pele said earlier on Saturday that the Brazilian giant remained “stable” and that there had been no deterioration in his condition over the last day.
