Police arrested 25 people during the violence, torching and damaging vehicles by blocking roads in different parts of the capital over a row regarding BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s house in the Dhaka Cantonment.
Acting Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Hoque told The Daily Star that the law enforcers have arrested the persons till 4:00pm. He also said no body will be spared if found involved in violating law and order.
The leaders and activists of the main opposition BNP blocked road from Farmgate to Mohakhali for half an hour and also set fire to a number of vehicles Saturday afternoon protesting the shifting of party chief Khaleda from her residence.
Police also halted transport movement from Bijoy Sarani to Mohakhali road for half an hour till 12:40pm after the demonstrators ransacked a number of vehicles.
Four buses, including a double-decker, carrying the students of Dhaka University, were set ablaze by miscreants in different parts of the capital.
Witnesses said a group of unruly people numbering six to seven intercepted the university bus ‘Chaitaly’ near the water tank at Fakirerpool and set fire to it at about 2:10pm.
Meanwhile, BNP activists set fire to another bus at Gabtali while unknown miscreants set ablaze another two buses, which were parked near Notre Dame College in Motijheel and Victoria Park in Old Dhaka at about 2:00pm.
