The BBC issued an apology on Tuesday after an obscene audio clip disrupted its FA Cup coverage.

Audio of a woman moaning was played at high volume as host Gary Lineker sought the opinion of fellow pundit Alan Shearer ahead of Liverpool’s 1–0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

“I don’t know who’s making that noise,” Lineker said with a laugh. “Somebody’s sending something to someone’s phone, I think. I don’t know if you heard it at home.”

The former England striker later said that a phone was taped behind the studio set as a joke.

Lineker said on Twitter, “The way the sabotage is going, it was quite amusing.”

The BBC issued an apology, saying: “We apologize for any viewers who were hurt during our live coverage of football this evening. We are investigating how this happened.”
