Braving winter chill and dense fog, people from all corners of the country thronged buses, trucks, launches and trains overnight to attend the last prayer.
Many people walked for about 15 kilometers to reach the Ijtema Maidan as all traffic towards Tongi was stopped at midnight.
Those who could not find space inside the Ijtema ground stayed in nearby buildings or slept outside on terraces, corridors, or footpaths and open spaces. Some spread newspapers, sacks, prayer mats, or polythene sheets on the roads and waited there.
