Prime minister present in world cup Opening match

ICC World Cup started in the field today with the match between Bangladesh and India. Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who formally kicked off World Cup Cricket on Thursday, could not control her deep passion for the sport as she spent hours at the gallery to watch Bangladesh-India opening match today.

Sheikh Hasina along with President Zillur Rahman entered the jam-packed Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in city’s Mirpur five minutes ahead of kickoff of the match at 2.30 pm and stayed up to 5 pm.

Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad told BSS that Sheikh Hasina enjoyed the match of the 10th World Cup Cricket at her official Ganobhaban residence after she left the stadium.

Prime Minister’s younger sister Sheikh Rehana, her son Redwan Siddique Mujib, daughter-in-law Peppy Siddique and granddaughter Lila Siddique were with her as she witnessed the match at the
stadium.

The other dignitaries who watched the game at the gallery
included former president and Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad,
Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, senior Awami League
leaders Amir Hossain Amu, Abdur Razzaque and Tofail Ahmed,
Information Minister Abul Kalam Azad, Health Minister Dr AFM
Ruhal Haque, Awami League presidium member Kazi Zafar Ullah,
State Minister for Liberation War Affairs AB Tajul Islam and
Attorney General Advocate Mahbubey Alam.
