The government is directed by the high court today (Tuesday) to publish the investigation report on share market plunge in a reasonable time.
This direction was made in response to a writ petition. A division bench of the HC also issued a rule upon the government to explain why its inaction to make the report public should not be declared illegal. Four weeks time is allotted for this purpose.
Also, it was asked to explain why legal actions should not be taken against the persons or companies responsible for the share market crash.
The court also asked the government to explain why it should not be directed to recover the money and to return it to the accounts of the affected investors.
The bench of Justice Syed Mohammad Ziaul Karim and Justice ANM Bashirullah passed the order and the rule following the writ petition by Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB).
The committee formed to probe the share market plunge submitted the report to the finance minister on April 7.
The finance minister yesterday (Monday) said the report is now being printed and the government will publish it along with the steps the government will take as per the committee’s recommendations.
