Bangladesh recorded a morale-boosting seven-wicket win against Sri Lanka in their first World Cup warm-up match on Friday, although their captain Shakib Al Hasan missed the match due to injury concerns.

The Tigers, who faced a number of issues on and off the field including a feud between their captain Shakib and veteran campaigner Tamim Iqbal who was dropped from the team, produced some brilliant batting and bowling displays to restrict Sri Lanka to 263 runs and Chased the target in 42 balls. Addition to Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati.

Mehedi Hasan Miraz, who led the team in Shakib’s absence, remained unbeaten on 67 and was also impressive in bowling as he conceded just 32 runs in 10 overs on a batting-friendly track.

Mushfiqur Rahim proved his worth, scoring 35 including the winning single and sharing an unbroken 76-run partnership with Mehdi, but it was the batting of the two openers Liton Kumar Das and Tanjeed Hasan that was most impressive.

Both of them were under immense pressure as Liton had completely lost his form while Tanzeed was burdened with the burden of filling the shoes of Tamim Iqbal, the premium opening batsman in the country’s history.
